In a list of the 20 Automotive Tier 1 Suppliers with the highest sales worldwide, companies of Japanese origin continously have grown over the past two decades: Back in 2001, north-american competitors built the strongest group by far, with eight of them in the ranking. This balance has now shifted, as the 2020 lisiting shows: It is dominated by six Japanese suppliers and counts three US companies. Yazaki underlines this trend by rising up by two positions from place 13 to 11.
This analysis by the renowned Automotive News magazine and its German sister publication Automobilwoche also found that the current Top 20 managed to at least double their revenues in this period –despite, for example, the economic impacts of Covid-19.
However, the effects of the pandemic and the semiconductor crisis on the 2021 annual sales comparison remain to be seen. For the first three quarters of the year 2021, Yazaki has dropped to place 17.
